Here at Johnson Orthodontics, we believe that local businesses can be valuable partners in public education. Businesses like ours are an important thread in the fabric of a community, particularly when they make an effort to help the schools and students in meaningful ways. This may be done through apprenticeships, internships, career guidance, education, resources…the possibilities are endless!
Our practice is passionate about investing in the Rehoboth Beach, Lewes, Milton and surrounding communities in various ways, from sponsoring sports teams and offering annual scholarships to providing teachers with supplies. “Extraordinary smiles, extraordinary service” is an approach we embrace inside and outside our office! We’ve partnered with many local sports teams and schools over the years, including:
- Beacon Middle School
- Bethel Christian School
- Cape Henlopen High School
- Delmarva Christian
- Lighthouse Christian
- Love Creek Elementary
- Mariner Middle School
- Milton Elementary School
- Rehoboth Elementary School
- Richard A. Shields/Lewes Elementary School
- Sussex Academy
- Sussex Consortium
One of the community contributions Dr. Johnson is most proud of is the “Extraordinary Smiles Scholarship.” This $500 scholarship was established in 2018 to recognize outstanding students in Rehoboth Beach (and our surrounding towns) to help them offset the cost of higher education. Our 2022 recipients are extremely well-rounded students who have consistently achieved excellent grades while still managing to participate in extracurricular activities and work part-time jobs.
This year we’re cheering for graduating seniors Elle Anderson of Cape Henlopen High School and Emma Lehman of Sussex Academy as they embark on new adventures in college! Elle will be attending the University of Delaware to study elementary education, while Emma plans to attend the University of Mary Washington to study psychology with a minor in neuroscience. She’s excited to play field hockey for them, too!
Did you know that about 94% of teachers in the US spend their own money on classroom supplies? We’re happy to help nurture the bright young minds in our community each year with the Johnson Orthodontics Fish Bowl Contest! Orthodontic treatment comes with regular follow-up visits, which sometimes means a patient must miss class to meet with Dr. Johnson. When each new school year starts, we put an empty fish bowl out on the counter and encourage kids to drop their teacher’s name in when they have an appointment during the day. At the end of the year, we pick three names from the bowl to win $200 gift cards that can be used for anything the teacher needs for their classroom.
Businesses and schools have a lot to offer one another, and we’re committed to strengthening the ties between our practice and the kids in our community. We’re proud to create healthier smiles for families in Rehoboth Beach and throughout Sussex County while partnering with teachers and schools to set the foundation for each child’s future success. Thank you for trusting us with your child’s smile!
